Fifty Third General Membership Meeting

With our newly acquired Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) matches playing on televisions in the Bar and Main Room, our Fifty Third General Membership meeting was held on Sunday, June 13th at 10:30 am in the Function Room.  Outgoing President, Bob Bagge, started with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our Troops, loved ones, lost ones and a Free and United Ireland.  Members were also reminded to sign the attendance book.

Big Mike distributed the Treasurer’s Report for the month of May.  May 2010 bar revenue was down 4% but food revenue was up 17% compared to 2009.  Year to Date the bar is down 10% but Food is up 9%.  The first two weeks of June have been the best since Paddy’s Day so the numbers continue to improve. Several functions are planned throughout the summer while Membership renewals are also flowing in to refill the coffers.  Additional funds were collected from the Golf Tournament bringing the total collected for the one day event to the equivalent of a mortgage payment.  A special thanks again goes out to Faith Murphy, Jay Collett, Ed Tierney and a host of volunteers for making this a very successful fund raiser.  Expenses for April included pumping the Septic Tank, refilling the Flower boxes, completion of the Trophy Case in the Library, pre-purchase of Irish Summerfest tickets and the down payment for the rental of the Melody Tent.  Donations included the American Cancer Society, South Shore Children’s Hospital and Yarmouth Youth baseball.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the report.

The Minutes from the previous meeting were made available and a motion was made and seconded to accept them.

Membership Secretary, Ellen Regan, distributed a sheet with eight prospective members that were voted on and accepted at the meeting.  Membership renewals are due by July 1, 2010.  Reminders have been sent via email, posted on the website and included in the Newsletters.  Those with no email address on file will be called by phone.  As always, Members can use the Payments and Donations page on the website to renew via credit card or Pay Pal.  Members that do not renew by July 1st will have their numbers removed and cards shut off so please be prompt.  To date, over 500 Members have renewed with another 750 to go.

Outgoing President, Bob Bagge, announced that Labor Day will mark our 5th Anniversary.  Plans are being made for the celebration.  June 11th was our second Anniversary in our new home, the former Black Rock Grille.

Carol Keller from the Events Committee reminded everyone about the Beach Party planned for Sunday, June 27th at 4 pm. Don’t feel like cooking after a day at the beach?  Come join us for a picnic buffet while Greg Buckley plays all your favorite tunes.  Other upcoming functions include a Lobster Boat Cruise on Saturday, July 17th from 2-3:30 pm.  50 people are needed to ensure we get a boat all to ourselves.  A bus will be provided if there is enough interest.  A sign up sheet is available at the Club.

Incoming President, Mike Regan, provided an update on the 2010 Cape Cod Summer Irish Summerfest.  The Club has been working with the Parade Committee to jointly sponsor the event.  A date of Tuesday, July 27th has been set and has been posted on the Melody Tent website at www.melodytent.org. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased through the Melody Tent website, which links to Ticketmaster, the Melody Tent Box Office or at the Club.  The Club will only have All-day tickets available, which reserves you a seat for the night time entertainment.  Tickets will also be available on the day of the event at the Melody Tent, providing capacity has not been reached.  The event will run from 3 pm to 10 pm and will have local entertainment throughout the day followed by a concert with Aoife Clancy at 7 pm followed by McPeake and the Screaming Orphans finishing off the night.  The Committee is currently taking applications for 7 food vendor spots as well as 7 vendors for Irish clothing and gifts. Applications are due ASAP for Food Vendors as Town approval is required and by June 30th for all other vendors.  Daytime tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children from 5-15 years old and $25 for the entire day, including the concert.  Children under 5 are free. Daytime tickets will not have access to concert seating. We need to sell 582 All-day tickets in order to break even.  With nearly 1,300 Members, if everyone buys two tickets we can sell out this event and raise funds for both the Community Fund and the Parade.  Posters have been completed and will be displayed throughout the Cape.
